Fuji to raise prices substantially on film
TOKYO, Japan – Fujifilm Corp. has announced that it will implement a worldwide price increase for its photographic films, including slide film. The price increases are substantial, and will be double digit but will vary depending on products, markets and regions. The price increases will take effect in May.
Since Kodak exited the slide film market, discontinuing its Ektachrome film line earlier this year, many railroad fans that still shoot slides use Fuji slide film.
Fujifilm said the reasons for the increase was the lessening demand for film products, the appreciation of the Japanese yen, and higher production costs for raw materials such as oil and energy. The company said it is unable to absorb these costs during the production process, and is forced to pass on price increases.
